Hold the Mayo: Give Us Some Love
![]()
By Blair Reynolds
I went to bed dreaming of O.J. Mayo in a Timberwolves uniform. I awoke to word that the Wolves traded Mayo to
Memphis for Kevin Love. My first thought was, great another bad move by general manager Kevin McHale. Get us all excited by picking the flashy Mayo and then in the dark of the night, trading him for the solid, but less marketable Love. However, after analyzing this trade, it is apparent McHale either knew what he was doing or got extremely lucky. It might be some of each.
Not only did McHale get Love, who is a better fit for the team and star player Al Jefferson, he parted with three stiffs with huge contracts. Sure, we took on two stiffs from the Grizzlies but we will worry about that later. Plus, we got a solid shooter in
South Dakota native Mike Miller. The wolves went from terrible to so-so, at least on paper. My only complaint is the trade of #34 pick Mario Chalmers to
Miami. Why?
Kudos to McHale, he didn’t fail. Now let’s see if these guys mesh on the court.
Local Nine Gets Ninth Straight Win
Can the Twins just move to the National League? They may never lose again if all their games came in the senior circuit. What a great sweep of the Padres. Now they get to come back home for three series against average opponents. If they can go 6-3 at home they will be in the hunt for the division come All-Star break. I don’t think many of us saw that coming.
