Today is the day. Draft day. The day Kevin McHale and the Timberwolves can either move forward in the rebuilding process or continue to make things worse. In what could be called the biggest pick in team history, the Wolves may have their hardest decision in years. Do they take the “scraps” left by the Bulls and Heat? Do they trade down to get a player who will fit the system better? Or do they get aggressive and look to move up to the second spot to secure getting Michael Beasley?

All of the above options have ability to be good decisions. The scraps left at three include O.J. Mayo who would have been a number one pick had he not have to have played at USC for a year. Trading down would bring the Wolves Kevin Love or Joe Alexander, two solid team players, who lack flash, but are solid.

McHale needs to work the phones all day today and figure out the best option for his team and not let the actions of other teams dictate what the Wolves do. Kevin needs to call the Heat and inquire about the price to move up and get the second choice. If you can trade the three, and the two high second round picks for the two, it is worth it. However, McHale needs to be patient. Don’t sell the farm just yet. Be active, not stupid.

In a few hours we will know how this plays out. My gut says the Wolves will do the worse thing possible. That’s the way things have gone in the past and I don’t see anything changing. Believe me, if the Wolves can find a way to screw this position of power up, they will. Let’s hope I’m wrong.

Eight is Great

To say the Twins are playing well is an understatement. They got their eighth straight win last night in San Diego. Glen Perkins pitched well and guys like Brendan Harris came up big with a clutch two-run homer. The teams meet again this afternoon. Let’s hope the Twins can get the sweep and come home hot to face the Brewers.
